The newly onboarded CEO of a Calgary-based manufacturing company was looking for support in renewing the organization’s strategic plan and advancing the team effectiveness and capability development of senior leaders.
STRAAD stewarded the senior leadership team through an accelerated 7-week strategic planning process which included a leader survey, one-on-one coaching to support functional strategy articulation, customized strategic planning tools and templates, and the facilitation of a two-day workshop and follow-up working sessions.
These efforts resulted in an integrated strategic plan and scorecard; and aligned functional strategies and plans ready to be cascaded down through the organization. The senior leadership team was equipped with new capabilities in strategic planning, change management and communication to support strategy translation and sustainment.
The senior leadership team also emerged from this work with alignment on their own norms, mandate, accountabilities and capabilities; a refreshed sense of self-awareness; and a new approach to decision-making to enhance their team effectiveness and individual leadership development journeys.
When a newly appointed CEO took the helm at a Calgary-based manufacturing company, the need for revamping the organization’s strategic direction became apparent. Leaders were operating in silos, and the CEO was seeking support in refreshing the organization’s strategic plan and advancing leadership effectiveness and capability.
Before diving into renewing the organization’s strategic plan, STRAAD kicked off the discovery process. During the discovery phase, STRAAD conducted a leader survey with all members of the senior leadership team and held one-on-one interviews with each leader. STRAAD also reviewed all strategy artifacts from the previous financial year and all leader assessments that had been conducted previously. Diving deep into discovery with the client allowed us to gather insights on levels of strategic capability within the team and overall leader effectiveness.
Findings from the discovery phase led STRAAD to the second phase of our 5D approach – diagnosis. Our findings highlighted what would be needed to effectively renew and execute the organization’s strategic plan which was twofold. First, a focus on advancing the team’s effectiveness, and second, strengthening the leadership capabilities of the senior leadership team. STRAAD tested, validated and aligned these insights with the organization’s CEO and then moved into the third phase – design.
